Two-dimensional gel electrophoresis (2DE) is a high-resolution method for the analysis of complex protein mixtures. The availability of the completed genome sequence corresponding to a particular protein mixture provides the unique opportunity to link gene organization with patterns of protein expression and to determine the mechanisms controlling gene regulation. GelBank provides an interactive interface for the comparison of 2DE patterns in the context of proteome sequence queries.
